🔥 I upgraded Debian Stable to Debian Testing because I wanted newer software. Then I learned why I had chosen Debian Stable in the first place. I wanted newer desktop environments, but experimenting with GNOME 50, Wayland, NVIDIA drivers and desktop portals came at a price. While recording a long-awaited second video with my daughter, OBS failed to capture her desktop. This isn't about blaming Debian Testing, GNOME or Wayland. It's about the difference between experimenting with your computer and depending on it as a reliable workstation. I've returned to Debian Stable and KDE Plasma. Here's what the experience taught me about chasing the latest software. 👀 Watch my entire MAIN playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3KVgwMTWoO0wKgJWk3BBtB20okJvu_6q 📍 Timestamps 00:00 Don't Rush for the Latest Software 00:18 My Problem With FOMO 01:08 Why I Wanted Newer Desktop Software 01:50 Wayland, NVIDIA and Desktop Regressions 03:29 Upgrading Debian Trixie to Forky 05:00 Trying GNOME 50 05:39 The OBS Recording Disaster 06:38 What a Reliable Workstation Should Be 08:15 Returning to Debian Stable 08:50 Experimentation vs. Reliability 10:01 My Final Decision ❤️ Help Keep This Content Going Memberships: https://youtube.com/@LinuxRenaissance/join Patreon: https://patreon.com/LinuxRenaissance Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/darth GitHub: https://github.com/sponsors/LinuxRenaissance Merch: https://shop.linuxrenaissance.com Zorin Pro: https://zorin.com/linuxrenaissance Keychron: https://www.keychron.com/?ref=LINUX 📢 Join The Linux Renaissance Community On Matrix Chat Matrix v12 Space: https://matrix.to/#/%23space:fosshq.org Recommended Matrix client is "Element" from Flathub and Element X on smartphones. 🌐 Follow Linux Renaissance everywhere Discuss: https://forum.linuxrenaissance.com, PeerTube: https://watch.linuxrenaissance.com, Odysee: https://odysee.com/@LinuxRenaissance:1, Telegram: https://t.me/LinuxRenaissance, Mastodon: https://silversword.online/@darth, Twitter: https://x.com/darthchillash, 🎵 Music By H0ffman: https://soundcloud.com/h0ffman/sets/protracker-amiga 🙏 Linux Renaissance is supported by OPNsense: https://opnsense.org Links within this video may contain affiliate links that I receive a small commission from. #linux #debian #debiantesting #linuxdesktop #fomo

I'd imagine the forum must take an awful lot of time. Perhaps a subreddit would be better - timewise at least.

I jumped to Fedora from being on Debian Stable for many years. I wanted to give a recent GNOME a proper try as MATE was getting too stale. It's been a good experience. I use AMD. Also, I don't do screencasts.
